Marcasite is the “sister stone” to pyrite (often referred to as fool’s gold). They have the same chemical makeup but pyrite has a more sturdy, cubic crystalline formation while Marcasite is often found incased in other materials, like this agate, to help stabilize and make it suitable for jewelry.
